THE D.A.R.E. MISSION: “TEACHING STUDENTS GOOD DECISION-MAKING SKILLS TO HELP THEM LEAD SAFE AND HEALTHY LIVES."
Founded in 1983, D.A.R.E. is a comprehensive K-12 prevention education program taught in thousands of schools across the U.S. and worldwide. Delivered by highly trained law enforcement officers, its evidence-based curriculum equips students with decision-making skills to lead safe, healthy lives and navigate risks such as drugs, alcohol, violence, bullying, and internet safety. Built on strong local partnerships among schools, law enforcement, families, and communities, D.A.R.E. is now the largest program of its kind, reinforcing both prevention and community-oriented policing. Its curricula are developed in collaboration with leading national institutions and experts. In 1989, D.A.R.E. America was established as a nonprofit to guide national and international growth, provide critical oversight, and ensure program fidelity that supports the success of local programs.
