Zach Thompson is a professional baseball pitcher currently playing for the Atlanta Braves in Major League Baseball (MLB). Born on October 23, 1993, in Burleson, Texas, Thompson is known for his versatile pitching style and ability to fill multiple roles on the mound.
Thompson was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the fifth round of the 2014 MLB Draft out of the University of Texas at Arlington. He worked his way through the White Sox minor league system, developing a reputation for his command and adaptability. After several seasons of consistent performance, he made his MLB debut with the Miami Marlins on June 7, 2021.
During his rookie season with the Marlins, Thompson impressed with his poise and effectiveness, earning a spot in the starting rotation and delivering quality outing where he worked to a 3.24 ERA over 75 innings.
Following his time with Miami, he played for the Pittsburgh Pirates. With the Pirates in 2022, Thompson started 22 games and pitched in 121 innings, posting a 5.18 ERA with 90 strikeouts before joining the Atlanta Braves on October 19, 2024.
With the Braves in 2025, Thompson has appeared in 2 games out of the bullpen, throwing 3.2 innings of scoreless baseball with 3 strikeouts.
