A Huge Summer of Sport Has Put the Spotlight Back on Athletes

Although as an odd-numbered year, 2025 is both a non-Olympic Games and non-FIFA World Cup year there has still been plenty of sport going on this summer to keep fans occupied.

Just some of the many sporting events still going on over the summer include:

UEFA Women's Euro 2025

Women’s sport and particularly women’s soccer has seen a massive increase in popularity over the past few years and this year England, world champions Spain, and former Olympic gold medal winners Germany were the firm favourites to lift the trophy. And sure enough it was a repeat of the World Cup Final with Spain and England facing off, with England ultimately lifting the trophy for the second time in a row. Many stars have broken through including Michelle Agyemang and Alisha Lehmann.

2025 Ryder Cup

Luke Donald is back again as captain, guiding Team Europe in the 2025 event at Bethpage Black in New York with the goal of securing a rare away victory over Team USA. Golf has seen a shake up over the past few years with Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund looking to take over the PGA Tour. It will be interesting to see what the combined company looks like ad what they do in terms of further sponsorships and licensing.

World Athletics Indoor Championships

As a consequence of the pandemic, an extra edition of the World Athletics Indoor Championships originally planned for 2020 is also being held in 2025 in Nanjing, China. Giving athletes the opportunity to further build their profiles.

UFC 2025 Season

This year’s UFC season is already well underway and recently saw Ilia Topuria become the Lightweight Champion at the end of June, and following on from this Featherweight win, only the 10th UFC fighter ever to win titles in two different weight classes. As entertaining between fights as during them UFC is a perfect place for big personalities to shine through and find brand sponsorship and licensing opportunities.

Women's Rugby World Cup

The 2025 Women’s Rugby World Cup kicks off in September and fans are getting excited for what is set to be a groundbreaking tournament. It will be held in England and the Red Roses will want to claim the trophy in their own backyard but will face fierce competition from Canada and New Zealand. The Black Ferns have beaten England in the past two Rugby World Cup finals.

Formula 1

The 2025 Formula 1 season has seen McLaren drivers Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris dominate the early races. McLaren leads the constructor's championship well ahead of Ferrari and Mercedes. With the Formula 1 movie having had a great run at the box office and the Netflix series Formula 1: Drive to Survive having had a 7th season launch this year the sport is very much top of mind with a wide range of audiences. Add in recent collaborations with the likes of LEGO and Disney the sport is looking to break out in a much bigger way and bring in younger audiences.

Sports and licensing go together incredibly well so whether you’re looking to partner with a sports team/association or an individual athlete Negosh has you covered.

With new sports emerging, women’s sports getting more attention, sports integrating into the wider entertainment and gaming space and with more categories and collaborations yet to be mined now is a great time to collaborate with a league, team or athlete.
