After a pregnant chimpanzee is rescued from an animal testing lab by eco-terrorists, she gives birth to a human-chimpanzee hybrid named Charlie before dying. Fifteen years later, Charlie is allowed to attend a normal high school and make friends, but the Animal Liberation Alliance that freed him has become more extreme and has plans for him. The Darwin Incident is the winner of the prestigious Manga Taisho and an Excellence Award at the Japanese Media Arts Festival. By May 2024, it had over 1.6 million copies in circulation, solidifying its place as a must-read series.
